Walk to Work in Berlin Mitte: Walking Route Full of Sights

7 April, 2023

Walk to work with me! Walk to Work Day is celebrated every year on the first Friday of April. Although it’s a great opportunity to stretch those calf muscles, put on a comfortable pair of shoes and start marching, walking to the office can also become a healthy habit for any workday. Promoting wellbeing, it is much more than getting from point A to point B.

As a community manager at Mindspace Krausenstraße I feel very fortunate to enjoy the big city life that working in Berlin Mitte has to offer. I’m very lucky that I can walk or bike to work without having it feel like it’s an around-the-world trip. Living and working in Berlin makes walking to the office quite an exciting experience as I pass by so many unique places in addition to the well-known sights.

On very energetic days, when I rise and shine early enough, I walk door to door, which takes me about one hour. On my ‘everyday’ walk, I start at Rosenthaler Platz; this is a great walk of approximately 40 minutes. On my lazy days, I start at Unter den Linden for a wake up walk that takes me about 15 minutes. To get to work faster and enjoy the fresh air, I ride my bicycle.

Here are 7 highlights of my everyday walking route to Mindspace in Berlin Mitte:

Stop #1: Rosenthaler Platz

Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin

Everywhere you look there are cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. This plaza is the perfect place to meet up with your colleagues before walking together to work. It’s also the perfect spot to get some breakfast or grab a coffee before starting the workday. I love kicking off my morning walk here. And it’s also a great stop for an after-work drink as well – Rosenthaler Platz covers 360 degrees of everything you could possibly need on your way to or from work.

Stop #2: Gipsdreieck

GipsDreieck in Berlin

Three streets and one little park in the middle –  that sums up Gipsdreieck. This is another unique corner of Berlin Mitte that fills you with good vibes, and invites you to grab a coffee on your way to work or chill during sunset. Grab an Aperol Spritz or a glass of wine, watch passerbys, socialize and enjoy the atmosphere while relaxing on one of the park benches.

Stop #3: Monbijoupark

Monbijoupark in Berlin

I really enjoy this little green lung inside the city while heading to work. I find myself admiring the people working out at the park’s outdoor gym, as I admire the beautiful view of the Spree and Museum Island.

Stop #4: Spree & Bode Museum

Spree and Bode Museum in Berlin

Keep strolling along the banks of the Spree River and cross one of the bridges to get an iconic view of the Bode Museum, TV Tower and the river. From here I keep walking towards the U-Bahn station Unter den Linden.

Stop #5: Unter den Linden – Brandenburger Gate

Unter den Linden in Berlin

Stop here to take in Berlin’s iconic view. Look to your right at the Brandenburger Gate, and look to your left at the Berlin TV Tower. Just stunning. From this stop onward, there’s a shift in atmosphere. The unique vibes of Berlin Mitte’s sightseeing spots change to Berlin’s business scene.

Stop #6: Friedrichstraße

Friedrichstraße in Berlin

I love walking down Friedrichstraße – the heart of Berlin’s business district. Friedrichstraße has a variety of modern and old-fashioned buildings and high-end shops. Sometimes I prefer a little more historic, cultural view and turn left onto Charlottenstraße to walk towards Gendarmenmarkt.

Stop #7: Gendarmenmarkt

Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin

Oh, Gendarmenmarkt – my last stop on this beautiful walk to work. This square takes my breath away with the beautiful historic buildings of the German and the French Cathedrals, as well as the concert hall. And the big bonus – it is located within a 2 to 10 minute walking distance from Mindspace Friedrichstraße, Mindspace Krausenstraße and our new location Mindspace Zimmerstraße. It provides the perfect inspiration to get the day started!

Benefits of Walking to Work

  • Relaxing and clearing your mind
  • Filling up with energy for the workday ahead
